Carlton Redcliffs Junior Hockey Information for 2024
Welcome to the Carlton Redcliffs Junior Club, below is key information for the 2024 season. We offer junior club teams for years 3-8 which have both a weekday training session and game scheduled by CHA on Friday evenings (Year3&4, and 5&6) or Saturday mornings (Year 3&4, 5&6 and 7&8). For our youngest Year 1&2 members we offer the Funsticks program, which runs after school over 6 weeks. Details are below.
Junior Pre-season skills and team allocations: Register here
Sunday 10 March - 12:00-2:00pm - Avon Hub *This is for all year 3-8 players, new & returning and is used to help with team allocations
Sunday 17 March - 12:00-2:00pm - Avon Hub *This is for all year 3-8 players, new & returning and is used to help with team allocations
Sunday 24 March - 12:00-2:00pm - Avon Hub *This session will be a skills session for year 3-6 players, and a trial for year 7 & 8 players
Registrations for the 2024 winter season: Registrations for the season will open after teams are announced.
2024 Junior (Year 3 - 8) Season Hockey Dates
Competition start dates:
Friday 10th & Saturday 11th of May 2024
Finals dates:
Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th of August 2024
Nonplaying dates:
1st June (King’s birthday), 13th July (Middle weekend school holidays) and 20th July (last weekend school holidays) . Friday 28th June (Matariki) TBC.
CHA Grade Structure Changes for 2024
Both Mini sticks (year 3-4) AND Kiwi Sticks (year 5-6) will be offered on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
Mini Sticks will be a fully mixed grade, but Kiwi Sticks will be split between boys and girls grades
We will endever to meet families preferences for which competition their child is entered, however this will be dependent on numbers.
Junior Hockey5s (year 7-8) Tournament
Junior (Year 7-8) will be held on Friday 19th April
Registrations for this will open soon on Player HQ
Junior Team Allocations
We will be trying to match players of similar ability. Within the registration form there is the opportunity to select if your child prefers to play competitively or more socially. Based on many factors, we do our best to place them in a suitable team. We will endeavour as a Club to keep friends together, however this is not always possible, and does not mean that we will keep whole teams of players together over consecutive seasons. We encourage parents and junior players to look at hockey as a great way for kids to connect and make long lasting friendships outside of school.
When allocating teams the following structure is followed:
Year 3/4 - teams allocated on a friendship basis where possible.
Year 5/6 - teams allocated by matching similar playing ability, and considering friendship groups where possible.
Year 7/8 - teams selected by trial process conducted pre-season.

Club t-shirts are provided. These are returned to the team manager at the end of the season

Funsticks Hockey - Years 1 & 2
The Funsticks program is designed by Canterbury hockey and delivered by clubs for children in years 1 & 2. This is a fantastic program for children to develop their hockey skills before they reach Year 3 when the Saturday competition begins.
The emphasis is on having fun, and developing fundamental skills- running, dodging, and striking.
Older children who have not previously played hockey but would like to try are also welcome.
Hockey sticks will be provided, however children will need a mouthguard and shinpads.
Please ensure your child is registered for Funsticks, so that we can communicate any changes or cancellations.

New to Club Junior Carlton Redcliffs Hockey promotion Year 3 - 8 only
New to Junior club hockey? We are again offering a Just Hockey starter kit for the new junior player. This promotion is designed to support players to begin playing club hockey who would benefit from assistance to begin their hockey career.
This promotion is open to new players who are fully registered by 01 May 2024 only.
