TRAINING CHANGES 17 - 30 APRIL @ NGĀ PUNA WAI
Skedda is the most up to date booking information in the system. Please double check your training bookings for this period as quite a few have moved either times, venues or both or may have been removed all together. In the notes section of booking there will be detail if this is a relocated booking or not. If you require any further turf time please check the free spots on Skedda and get in touch with me. The link to view the booking calendar is here https://canterburyhockey.skedda.com/booking

FENCING @ NGĀ PUNA WAI
There is quite a bit of temporary fencing and some filming towers going up around turf 1 to make it a fully enclosed area. This will obviously be fully closed on match days and you will need a ticket to get in. Please remind teams to not move any fencing and do not bring any alcohol into the fenced area at any stage.

CLUB INITIATIVE CONCUSSION REDUCING HEADBANDS EMAIL TO BE SENT TO SENIOR PLAYERS

Reduce risk of head injury this season by wearing an UNEQUAL HALO.3 Concussion Head Band.

Start of season is underway and teams are taking to the turf.  The club is keen to support player safety and is invested in reducing head injuries and concussion for players.  Europe and the UK are well ahead of the game. International players are using protective head gear across all ages. We as a club are promoting the UNEQUALHalo.3 concussion headband.  The headbands are High tech, reduces acceleration, absorbs and deflects strike force, incredibly effective, proven NURO technology.

SPECIAL CLUB OFFER TO TWO PLAYERS PER TEAM  - The Club is offering two senior players in each senior team an opportunity to purchase a discounted headband.   The headbands are discounted by 50% to $40 each… Only available to two members per senior team (the club has a total of 26 headbands).

If you are interested, please email your coach/manager if you want to be one of the two players to purchase a headband form your team. Please cc the clubs contact person, Lyn Jansen to arrange your size, fitting and delivery - lynjansennz@gmail.com

BACKGROUND - This promotion has been a response by the club due to the many players who have had to endure a head injury and concussion on the turf. We want to get the head injury stats for hockey reduced significantly.   Carlton Redcliffs club put together some information as a promotion to CHA to encourage players to wear protective gear on the turf - CLICK HERE.

Thanks to Trudi Baker,  a Carlton Redcliffs MWO player who allowed us to share her story of a horrendous head injury that required facial reconstruction, titanium plates, nerve damage, severe concussion and visual impairment from a head injury as 1st runner at a defensive PC.

FACE MASK EXPECTATION - The club also has an expectation that Junior and Senior teams encourage all 4 defenders at PC’s to wear the full face masks provided by the club or to purchase their own to wear.

WE CAN’T STOP ALL INJURIES BUT WE CAN MINIMISE THEM.
Be in quick……. 50% deal on the HALO.3 concussion head bands…... 50% off at only $40 each.

Reddos Funsticks Hockey – Years 1 & 2 & older children wanting to try hockey

Our Reddos Funsticks program is designed by New Zealand Hockey and delivered by a team of Reddos volunteers for children in years 1 & 2. This is a fantastic program for children to develop their hockey skills before they reach Year 3 when the Saturday competition begins.

Our emphasis is on having fun, and developing fundamental skills to set our players up for the future.

Older children who have not previously played hockey but would like to try are also welcome. Children will just need a mouthguard ( shin guards if you have them) , long socks and a drink bottle. Hockey sticks, shin guards etc will be provided.

Dates: See our website and register on our EVENTS page for details

Starts Wednesday 4 May 3:45-4:45pm 6 weeks.  Last session 8th June.

Venue: Redcliffs School Turf

We would also like to thank our Junior club committee and coaches who give up their time to try and ensure everyone gets to play.  Our club is entirely run by volunteers and without their support we would not be here.

30 March 2022 - CHA Competition update - Electronic live scoring, Registrations deadline no play, Match cards, 2022 Division 1 shields, Transfers, Rule changes

Kia ora CPL, Div 1 and SSL Coaches and Managers

Thank you for all your mahi helping them get everyone ready to get out on the turf, it's been a bit of a mission!  SORRY this is a bit of an omnibus edition!  The MOST URGENT item is getting players registered in PlayHQ BY THURSDAY 31st MARCH to be able to enter playing list for games this weekend by the CHA cut off, otherwise....they can't play in the comps this weekend, Monday and Tuesday.   Special Thanks to CPL Men, Div 1 Men, CPL Women, Div 1 Women and  SSL Men for getting ALL their players, coaches and MANAGERS into PlayHQ (there may or may not have been a competition between certain managers for the Gold and Silver).

As always we are here to help and I am happy to walk you through anything, although you will find Ritchie and Tanyia Legge are fast becoming our in-house PlayHQ experts:)

In this update:

LATEST CHA UPDATE - Electronic live scoring, Registrations deadline no play, Match cards, 2022 Division 1 shields, Transfers, Rule changes.

MATCH CARDS (TEAM LINE UPS)- I am happy to do a quick 5 minute online session meeting to go through how to create the match cards (Line up info herefor this weekend including fill-in players  - Let me know if you're interested

PlayHQ
  *   CHA have the most participants registered to date on PlayHQ which is great!  Seniors need to be registered, we will start to tackle Youth and Juniors from next week onwards!
  *    Electronic scoring. I've attached a quick help document for electronic scoring which you can share with your managers and coaches. - CLICK HERE
-We will have a tablet allocated to each individual turf (eg 3 tablets at nunweek park) so their game day can be completed there if necessary.

*      Match cards (Match Line ups) -  INSTRUCTIONS - PlayHQ CLICK HERE or Reddos summary - CLICK HERE
              - Ideally the coach/manager will do their team line up in the week leading up to the match and then at that turf on the day and just do any edits and add their fill ins.

It's going to be a bit of learning for everyone so hopefully we iron out any issues quickly.
  *   We are going to create a page on the CHA website with our PlayHQ information - CLICK HERE

Competitions
  *   Registrations - Please ensure all your teams have their minimum quantity of players allocated to their squad before their first match. CPL 14 players and the all other teams  12 players. Please ensure you have this complete before this coming Friday 1st April  for your senior teams.
  *   We NEED you to have your players registered to play. If they are not registered, they cannot be added to the match card and they cannot play. Probably something you can push onto your team managers to make sure their players are registered.
  *   Division 1 Challenge Shields -
+ These have been introduced for the 2022 season and beyond! They operate the same as the CPL challenge shields.
+ Because nobody currently holds them they are contested for in week one in the match involving the 2021 1st place after the round robin.
+ Division 1 - Women - Harewood vs Marist and  Men - Southern United vs Carlton Redcliffs.
+ If the match is a draw then Harewood and Carlton Redcliffs would be awarded the shields.

Transfers
Attached is the list exported from PlayHQ of 2022 senior transfers to date. What I need clubs to do it go through the list (ive sorted it) and check the players that have registered for a club in 2022 but noted in the custom questions that they played for your club in 2021. The only action you need to take is if this transfer is declined please email their new club and copy me in noting that the transfer is declined and the reason. This system relied on our participants filling out their registration questions directly so it may not have captured everyone. If you think this list is way off and you have had more leave your club please let me know and we will switch to plan B.
I will sort out the Association transfers at my end and let clubs know if any of their new players are declined.

In regards to your clubs unfinancial players - Please either add them to the unfinancial sheet

2022 Important rules
Ive almost finished the rule document edits for 2022. Below are the main changes to highlight (these have been mentioned in the past)
  *   If a registered mid week open player played in the Canterbury Premier League (CPL) in the year proceeding the current season. Their only play up eligibility is into a Saturday team from their member club.
  *   If a club have 5 or more players absent due to a representative fixture (either CHA or HNZ) then they can opt for a deferral of that game which must be accepted by the opposition. Playing of the fixture must happen within a timeframe specified by CHA and any advisory committees.
  *   If a club have 5 or more players absent due to COVID Protocols then they can opt for a deferral of that game which must be accepted by the opposition. Playing of the fixture must happen within a timeframe specified by CHA and any advisory committees.
  *   As a one season trial, CPL teams will be able to name 18 players on the match card as long as two of them are fully kitted goalkeepers. If your division 1 goalkeeper is the second fully kitted keeper then this game will count as one of their "play up" games even if they do not take the field.

Turf Bookings
Hopefully you all saw the in season turf going last week. If you want to delay any of your start dates or add any exception dates please either let me know or log into skedda and adjust them. INFORMATION AND REMINDERS FOR ALL OF US AS PLAYERS, PARENTS, SUPPORTERS AND COACHES

Questions or concerns for CHA:
A reminder for all coaches and managers that any questions or concerns for CHA need to come through the club first. Please do not contact the CHA directly, instead contact your either your Carlton Redcliffs club captain, secretary or president.

Uniform:
When playing Harewood teams, Carlton Redcliffs must play in alternative strip, which is bibs for most teams.
Rules currently state:
The Current CHA uniform clashes and fixes are as follows:
Carlton Redcliffs and Harewood – Carlton Redcliffs must change.
Carlton Redcliffs and University – Carlton Redcliffs must change.

Rules & Umpires:
The answers to most things can be found in the CHA rules and regulations 2021 V2.pdf  on the CHA website.
Further rules around specific grades can be found in Appendix A of the CHA rules and regulations 2021, which are attached above.

For all teams, please remember the golden rule that the umpire is ALWAYS right. They can't see everything, and without them we have wouldn't have games. Please help to install this club value in your team culture.

For junior teams, please also remember that the games are often umpired by parents, and junior umpires, both of whom are learning. Sometimes they get it wrong, and that's ok, we all make mistakes. Enjoy the game, and remember, it is just a game. We want our kids to enjoy themselves.
Any problems should be discussed with the venue umpire supervisor, not the umpire.

Culture:
Finally, early season is the perfect time to highlight the values and culture we identify with. We are a small club, and we strive to preserve the culture and values that our club is known and well regarded for. As coaches and managers, you are ambassadors for the club and can help set the tone for your team. Here is a link to our Reddos Culture and Values page on our website.

Please encourage your players and supporters to model the following values:

JUNIOR PLAYERS
• Play by the rules.
• Play for enjoyment, not just to win or to please your parents or coach.
• Never argue with umpires’ decisions. Let your coach ask any necessary questions.
• Control your temper. No swearing or abusive language or actions.
• Remember, hockey is a team game. Encourage your teammates.
• Be a good sport. Recognise your opponents’ good play, as well as your own teams.
